Sydney, N.S. – Cape Breton University and CAPERS men's basketball head coach David Petroziello are pleased to announce the commitment of UDC Firebird Martin Campbell to the CAPERS for 2017-18.
The 6'4" guard from Upper Marlboro, MD has been a proven winner over his career. His University of the District of Columbia team earned a 1st conference tournament bid with Campbell on the team. His Danville Community College Jaguar team finished runner up in their regionals. Campbell was also a decorated high school player with the Arundel High School Wildcats and the team posted its best record in 150 years with a 24-2 with Campbell leading the team.
The American chose CBU to help achieve his degree goals and gain an international learning experience while continuing to play basketball. Campbell said, "I love the campus and the atmosphere. The men's basketball head coach and I have developed a great relationship and I look forward to becoming a CAPER."
"Martin has been part of successful programs and brings the experience of being in winning environments to our program." pointed out Petroziello. "He is an excellent off ball defender and a good rebounder for his position who will immediately help our defensive awareness and execution."
Petroziello added, "Martin's ability to knock down outside shots while creating for others will result in better spacing and a more fluid offensive system. On and off the floor Martin has the character, work ethic, and talent to have an immediate impact and I am sure that CAPERS fans will enjoy watching him and his new teammates compete in the AUS next season."
When Campbell was asked how he sees himself helping the CAPERS next season, Campbell feels he can contribute in many ways. "I believe I can be a great addition to the team in many ways. I am coming in as a veteran player and am ready to be a leader on and off the floor." said Campbell.
