The CBU Women's Basketball team was honored to be a part of the Cape Breton Special Olympics Awards Banquet.
(Sydney NS) – The CBU CAPERS women's basketball team took part in the Cape Breton Special Olympics Sports Banquet on Saturday evening at the Our Lady of Fatima Hall. The CAPERS were honored to be a part of the program and helped present certificates to the Special Olympians.
The CBU Department of Athletics and the Cape Breton Special Olympics have developed a strong relationship with events during the past year. The CAPERS women's basketball team welcomed the Special Olympians as guests at one of their home games during the regular season. Both the CBU Men's and Women's basketball teams helped with a March Madness Basketball Camp that involved Special Olympians from around Cape Breton Island. Donna White, one of the dedicated volunteers for the group said "The camp was a great experience for all our athletes and I hope we can continue this event in the future. The athletes had so much fun and learned many new skills."
The awards banquet marked the culmination of the year for the group and the CBU Department of Athletics were excited to be a part of the festivities. White said "The athletes were so proud of having the ladies at the banquet. The Women's and Men's basketball teams were wonderful ambassadors for the Athletics Department and CBU throughout the year."
