Capers drop opener to Axemen
The Cape Breton University Capers couldn't overcome a slow start and dropped an 82-77 decision to the Acadia Axemen in AUS men's basketball action Friday in Sydney.
The visiting Axemen jumped out to a 26-13 lead through one quarter and while the Capers battled throughout, the visitors escaped with the victory.
Cedric Kasongo had 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Capers offensively.
Kyle Hankins and Kenny Jean-Louis chipped in with 10 points apiece in a losing cause.
Kyle Arsenault had 20 points and nine boards for the Axemen.
AJ Simmonds added 16 points and six boards of the bench for the winners while Ben Miller and Erik Nissen finished with 13 and 12 points respectively.
The two squads will be back on the floor Saturday night at 8 p.m. for the rematch at the Sullivan Fieldhouse.
