Young CAPERS fall in 2017 Opener
CBU losses to UNB
(Sydney)- The CBU CAPERS were defeated 115-75 by the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds Friday night at the Sullivan Field House in Sydney. The loss drops the CAPERS to 0-8 on the season and Varsity Reds improve to 5-3.
The CAPERS were led in scoring by AUS All-star Kenny Jean-Louis (Montreal, QC) with 17 point and 8 rebounds. Jack MacAulay (Charlottetown, PEI) chipped in 14 pts and Junior Moaku-Matia (Hamilton, ON) had 10 pts and 5 rebounds. Seth Amoah (Montreal, QC) returned from injury and put up 7 points in his return.
The Varisty Reds used a balanced attack that featured 5 different players in double figures on the night. UNB was led by Donovan Hastings (Brampton, ON) with 23 pts, Javon Masters (Kitchener, ON) with 22pts and Jesse Kendall (Guelph, ON) with 19. Masters surpassed Fred Perry for 2nd all-time in career points.
The Varsity Reds led from start to finish and had an outstanding night of shooting. They shot 51.9% from 3-point land and 54.4% from the field. The growing CAPERS were just 2-14 from beyond the arc and were forced into 12 turnovers.
The CAPERS next play host to the UPEI Panthers on Friday, January 13th at 6pm in the Field House. The game will feature the raising of the AUS Men's Soccer Championship banner and also the Bell Let's Talk Game. UNB will next travel to St.FX on Saturday.
