Sydney, N.S. – Cape Breton University and CAPERS men's basketball head coach David Petroziello are pleased to announce the commitment of point guard Levi Smith III to the CAPERS next season.
The 5' 11" guard from North Preston, NS. was named a 1st team all-star and is a former high school all-star with the Auburn Eagles in Cole Harbour, NS. Smith III is also a former 3-time provincial champion.
The North Preston, NS native chose Cape Breton for several reasons. "I connected well with coach Petroziello and I believe in what the coach is building at CBU", commented Smith III. "The university is a good fit academically for me and Cape Breton is close to home so the community will be able to see me play."
"I am very excited to welcome Levi to the CAPERS basketball family", said Petroziello. "Levi is a throwback, pass-first, distribution focused point guard who does a great job facilitating for his teammates by putting them into positions to be successful at both ends of the court. Levi is a high character young man from a wonderful family who values sacrifice and hard work."
Petroziello added, "He can have an immediate impact on the program on and off the floor, and I look forward to watching his growth in the classroom and on the court over the coming years."
When asked how he sees himself helping the CAPERS next season, Smith pointed out that he is willing to help in any way. "I see myself as someone who can captain the ship and help lead us back to the top of the AUS."
