Sydney, N.S. – Cape Breton University and CAPERS men's basketball head coach David Petroziello are excited to announce the commitment of University of Virgin Islands forward Paul Watson to Cape Breton University for the 2017-18 season.
The 6'6" forward from Toronto, ON is a former All West Coast Prep and Paradise Jam 1st team All-Star. Watson chose Cape Breton because of his contact with head coach David Petroziello and the opportunity that the CAPERS present. "It was the one school that I felt the most comfortable with and I had a great vibe with Coach P." said Watson. "I also have a great opportunity here and I believe CBU is where I can push myself to the next level."
"I am very happy to welcome Paul to our Capers basketball program. Paul is just the type of person and player we can build with both on and off the floor." said Petroziello. " As a high character person and intense competitor, Paul will bring another voice of experience who understands what it takes to be successful in the locker room, and will help us develop the mindset, work ethic and daily habits our team needs to succeed in the AUS. "
"On the court, he is a lengthy and skilled defender who can guard multiple perimeter positions and is another addition that will help solidify our perimeter and rotational defense. Offensively he finds multiple ways to contribute as a very willing passer who can really put the defense on its heels when he attacks the basket. His ability to knock down open shots will also put added pressure on the defense." says Petroziello.
When Watson was asked how he sees himself contributing to the CAPERS for the 2017-18 season, Watson says that he has several goals in mind. Watson said "I know I can score to help the team on that end however I need to. My length and athleticism also allows to me to guard several positions." Watson finished by saying "I want us to be at the top of the AUS and that is what all of us from Coach P on down are aiming for."
