Merke Commits to CBU
Cape Breton University brings in 6'10 Keane Merke
Sydney, N.S. – Cape Breton University and CAPERS men's basketball head coach David Petroziello are pleased to announce the commitment of Notre Dame Hounds center Keane Merke to the Cape Breton University CAPERS for the upcoming season/
The 6'10" big man from Saskatchewan is looking forward to coming east to the Maritimes. Merke chose Cape Breton because he believes the program will help him develop. The Saskatoon native said "I chose CBU to further my education while playing the sport I love. I believe the CBU basketball program is a fit for me and will help develop my game to the fullest potential."
"Keane is a great addition to our program and I am very happy to welcome him to Cape Breton. Keane is a young big man with an incredibly high ceiling, and his development over the next few years will be exciting to watch. He is a great teammate, is willing to learn and understands that the work he puts in will decide what type of player he will become. I could not be happier to welcome such a grounded and humble young man to our Capers family." commented Head Coach Petroziello.
When Merke was asked how he sees himself helping the 2017-18 CAPERS for the 2017-18, the Prep school grad says that he is ready to give everything he has to the program. "I will gladly do whatever the coaches ask of me and will put 100% effort into everything I do and maintain a positive attitude." commented Merke.
Coach Petroziello added, "Keane received high level coaching from Coach Huffman and his staff at Notre Dame, so I know that he comes in with a good foundation of basketball skills from a program where high character behaviour is taught. I am also really excited to work with Keane on and off the floor as he pursues his academic and athletic goals, and I know he will add a lot to our program in the coming years. The sky is the limit for this young man."
