(FREDERICTON, NB) The Cape Breton University CAPERS finished their opening weekend road trip losing to the UNB Varsity Reds 103-85.
Javon Masters(Kitchener, ON) led all scorers with 31 points. Masters was named the Subway Player of the Game.
"It's nice to get off to a good start, especially against a scrappy Cape Breton team," said Masters of his team's perfect start. "It got a little chippy near the end, but that comes with playing in the AUS."
Martin Campbell(Upper Marlboro, MD) led the Capers, scoring 29 points and grabbing nine rebounds before fouling out late in the fourth quarter.
"It's a little disappointing, but we showed we've got a good group of guys," said Campbell. "Everything is going to be okay, we've just got to turn that corner."
The Varsity Reds got 32 points from their bench, while Cape Breton's contributed just 15. "We beat ourselves these past two games," said Campbell. "Once we all join together, and buy into the system, we'll be fine."
The CAPERS return home and host Saint Mary's in a weekend doubleheader on Friday, November 10th. Tip-Off at 8 pm.
