MBB: Campbell's late surge not enough for CAPERS.
The CBU CAPERS lose 88-73 to MUN on Sunday afternoon.
CBU 73 MUN 88
Returning from the winter break did not slow down the Cape Breton Capers or the Memorial Sea-Hawks in Sunday's game. Both teams came out quickly with a break-neck pace, looking for quick points. The speed of the game got the blood flowing on both teams, with lots of contact on both ends of the floor.
Memorial held the lead through the first two quarters, 18-15, and 32-25 respectively. Both teams had balanced scoring across the board, Daniel Gordon of the Hawks coming off the bench strong with a quick three and fast-break dunk for his first five points; Gordon finished with eight total in the half. For the Capers, Osman Omar led the team with seven. Going into the second half, it was anybody's game with only a seven-point difference.
At the start of the third, the Hawks came out gunning, going on an 8-0 run. The Hawks kept the pressure on throughout the second half, creating loose ball opportunities, and converting off turnovers. Martin Campbell (Upper Marlboro, MD) led the CAPERS with 28pts and 8 rebounds in a losing cause. Campbell caught fire in the fourth quarter and scored 19 points in the final quarter.
Both teams will return to action in another important four-point game on Monday at 11.30am. The Hawks currently stand 3-6 on the season; CBU stands at 2-6. Tomorrow's game will be available on austv.ca.
