MBB: CAPERS Lose Weekend Finale
The Saint Mary’s Huskies defeated the visiting Cape Breton University Capers 86-79 on Saturday afternoon.
(HALIFAX, NS)—The Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the visiting Cape Breton University Capers 86-79 on Saturday afternoon in Senior Day from the Homburg Centre in Atlantic university sport men's basketball action.
Kemar Alleyne (Scarborough, ON) paced all scorers with 29 points for Saint Mary's as the 6-2 guard added 10 rebounds and five assists in the win and was named Subway Player of the Game.
SMU held a slim 18-17 advantage after the first quarter and used a 24-16 second quarter and extended their lead to 42-33 after twenty minutes.
A 19-13 third-quarter advantage for SMU saw the Huskies up 61-46 after thirty minutes.
Cape Breton outscored SMU 33-25 in the final ten minutes as Saint Mary's held on for the 86-79 victory.
Kyle Hankins (Burlington, ON) powered Cape Breton with 22 points and six rebounds in the loss while Osman Omar (Mississauga, ON) added 18 points and Aaron Hayles (Pickering, ON) had 15. Indiana Rotondo (Vaughan, ON) chipped in 12 points for CBU.
Cape Breton wraps up their regular-season with a home date versus the 13-5 Acadia Axemen February 23rd. This will be the final game in senior Kyle Hankins career.
