CAPERS Women Start 2nd Half Right!!
CBU defeat UNB 69-51.
(Sydney)- The Cape Breton University CAPERS women defeated the UNB Varsity Reds 69-51 at the Sullivan Field House on Friday night. The CAPERS move to 7-1 with the victory and UNB drops to 6-2 in a battle of two top teams in the AUS.
Alison Keough (Marion Bridge, NS) led the CAPERS with 25pts and 14 rebounds and continues to be among the leading scorers in AUS women's basketball. Sandra Amoah (Toronto, ON) and Natasha Roach (Roxboro, QC) provided spark off the bench with 8pts and 7pts. This game also featured the return of Rasheeka Gunn (Oakville, ON). Gunn a 4th year forward played her first game of the season returning from injury with 2 pts and 3 rebounds in 8 minutes off the bench.
UNB was led in scoring Laura Kaye (Fredericton, NB) with 17 points and 2 rebounds in a losing cause. Nicole LaFleur contributed 8pts, 2 reb and 2 assists in a strong effort.
The CAPERS shot an excellent 4-10 from the 3-point line and won the turnover battle over the Varsity Reds 19-12. The CAPERS also held the advantage in bench scoring 23-15.
The CAPERS next play host to the UPEI Panthers on Friday, January 13th at 6pm in the Field House. The game will feature the raising of the AUS Men's Soccer Championship banner and also the Bell Let's Talk Game. UNB will next travel to St.FX on Saturday.
