Hiscock returns home to help CAPERS win!
Rookie Sarah Hiscock returned home to Newfoundland to help lead the CAPERS to defeat the Memorial Seahawks 64-50.
CBU 64 MUN 50
(St.John's, NL) - The CBU CAPERS came ready to play, playing strong zone defence, preventing a Memorial team that enjoys attacking the basket from getting easy layups. CBU held the lead through the first half, 18-11 after the first, 28-21 at half.
Memorial had a difficult half converting from the field, shooting a dismal 19% from the field, even worse from behind the arc at 13%. CBU managed to achieve a better percentage from the field than the Hawks at 36%. Scoring was balanced across both teams in the first half, with no players scoring more than 10, but having multiple players contributing.
The second half was tough for Memorial, especially the third quarter. The Hawks were outscored 21-10, continuing their struggles from the field, as well as allowing inside buckets on defence. Even with a strong run in the fourth to cut the lead down to single digits, Memorial could not contain Cape Breton's post work; Hannah Brown (North Sydney, NS) of the Capers put on a clinic down-low, putting up 21 points and whopping 17 rebounds. Hometown roomie Sarah Hiscock (Mount Pearl, NL) had 9 points and 5 rebounds for the CAPERS and this was her best game of her young AUS career.
After this win, the CAPERS will look to continue their 5-game win streak tomorrow. The CAPERS and Seahawks will play a rare Monday morning game starting at 9.30am. The Hawks currently stand 5-4 on the season; CBU stands 5-3. The game will be available on austv.ca.
