WBB: Keough Named 1st-Team All-Canadian
Cape Breton University's Alison Keough has been named a U Sports 1st-Team All-Canadian
REGINA, Sask. (U SPORTS) – Cape Breton forward Alison Keough (Marion Bridge, NS) was honoured as a U Sports 1st-team All-Canadian member Wednesday night, as the national award winners were celebrated at the annual All-Canadian gala. This is the second time that Keough has been named a 1st-Team All-Canadian as she received the honour in 2016-17 as well. The 5th-year player joins Kelsey Hodgson as the only CAPERS women's basketball player to earn 1st-Team All-Canadian honors twice.
Keough finished her 5-year university career this season by winning her first AUS league scoring title. She averaged 19.2 points per game to go along with 12 rebounds per game. She is CBU's All-time leading scorer with 1735 pts and All-time leading rebounder with 1022. Her rebounding totals are also the best in AUS history.
Keough was named AUS Rookie of the Year, U Sports Rookie of the Year and a member of the AUS and U Sports All-Rookie teams as well as AUS 2nd-team All-star in 2013-14. She followed that up by being named an AUS 1st-Team All-star on four occasions (2014-15,2015-16,2016-17 and 2017-18). She was named a U Sports 2nd-team All-star in 2015-16. The nursing student was also a member of the CAPERS AUS Championship team in 2016-17.
Acadia's Paloma Anderson was named this year's Nan Copp Player of Year award. Regina guard Carolina Gonçalves captured the Kathy Shields Award as Rookie of the Year, while UPEI forward Kiera Rigby earned the Sylvia Sweeney Award for Student-Athlete Community Service for her outstanding contribution both on and off the court. Carleton forward Elizabeth LeBlanc is the Defensive Player of the Year, while her bench boss Taffe Charles received the Peter Ennis Award as Coach of the Year. Finally, Winnipeg forward Lena Wenke is the winner of the Tracy MacLeod Award for her courage in overcoming adversity
