Sydney, N.S. – Cape Breton University and CAPERS women's basketball head coach Fabian McKenzie are pleased to announce the commitment of St. Joseph's High School guard Addie Mailhot to Cape Breton University beginning this fall season.
The 5'9 guard from St. Thomas, ON is a product of the Southwest Academy in the OSBA. Mailhot chose Cape Breton because it checked off all her boxes for deciding which university to attend. Mailhot explained "I chose CBU because of the small school community, excellent academics and the great support system that includes amazing staff and people. The basketball program is elite and competitive, you are cared for as an individual and player development is outstanding in its importance and execution. The phenomenal and passionate coaching staff made CBU an easy pick."
Head Coach Fabian McKenzie says "Addie is the prototype for a student-athlete. A high academic achiever off the court and Addie is a relentless athlete on the court. She possesses a phenomenal drive to excel. I feel that once she learns how to adjust to the physicality and style of play in the AUS, she will impact our program. She is a great athlete who can defend hard, passes the ball very well and attacks the rim on offence. Addie will enter the Science Program at CBU."
When Addie was asked how she sees herself helping the CAPERS in his first season, she said "I think I will add to the current depth with versatility and tempo. I see myself helping the CAPERS through hard work and discipline both on and off the court. My dedication and commitment will be to the process of matching the principles and characteristics of the CBU family in leadership, mental toughness, special effort levels, assertiveness and balance."
