Sydney, N.S. – Cape Breton University and CAPERS women's basketball head coach Fabian McKenzie are pleased to announce the commitment of Riverview Rural High School player Hailey MacLeod to Cape Breton University beginning the 2019-2020 season.
The 5'11 forward from Marion Bridge, NS explained "I think this school is the perfect academic fit to prepare me for my plans later on in life. The BACS program will prepare me well me for my planned career in law enforcement."
Head Coach Fabian McKenzie says "We are very excited to add Hailey to our program. Our goal is to build our program around high character young ladies and she is outstanding on and off the court. As a local standout on the court, Hailey is an exceptional athlete who has been a dominant presence in high school basketball and she hasn't even begun to show everyone how good she can be. I am very happy that she has chosen CBU and our women's basketball program and cannot wait to get on the court and help her reach her full potential."
When Hailey was asked about the advantage and importance of being able to stay home as a student-athlete, she answered, "Having a nationally recognized basketball program in my backyard made it an easy decision to attend CBU. The success of the program and seeing other local athletes excel at home excites me for the start of my basketball career. I want to play here because it gives my family and my grandparents who are my biggest supporters more chances to watch me play and excel in a sport I love. Who would have thought as a little kid shooting a basketball into an upside down stool with my Papa in his garage would lead to all this? CBU is the perfect place for me to write my own success story."
