The Cape Breton University Capers women’s soccer team capped off a perfect regular season with a 2-1 victory over the Acadia Axewomen in AUS action Sunday in Sydney.
With the win, the 10-0-3 Capers wrapped up top spot in the AUS standings and will be the top seed when they host the 2012 Subway AUS Women’s Soccer Championship this weekend.
After a scoreless first half, the visitors took a lead early in the second half when Acadia’s Jenna Blackburn scored at the 52-minute mark.
The lead was short lived however as third-year striker Danielle MacDonald pulled the CIS No. 4 ranked Capers even just six minutes later.
In the 75th minute, second-year midfielder Lauren Ferguson rounded out the scoring with her first goal of the season to give the Capers a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish.
As the top team in the AUS, the Capers will have a bye into Saturday’s AUS championship tourney semifinal.
