CAPERS unable to avoid weekend sweep
St. John’s, NL - The Sea-Hawks were able to sweep the Capers with a second win on Sunday morning with a score of 82-62.

The Sea-Hawks came out strong in the first quarter, with an 8–0 run helped by an early jump shot and layup from Rebecca Ekstrom. A couple of layups from the Capers' Hailey Macloed helped to end that run, but the Sea-Hawks were able to continue to push and finish the quarter with a strong lead of 26-13.
Memorial's Ines Salat-Margarit opened the second quarter with a layup, and then it was very much a Sea-Hawks game for the remainder of the quarter. Eavan Mclaughlin contributed 4 points off the bench in the quarter for Memorial, while Mackenzee Ryan made two three-point shots and two free throws to keep the Capers alive. However, the second quarter ended with a commanding 44-25 lead for the Sea-Hawks.
Rebecca Ekstrom led the Sea-Hawks as well as all scorers with 15 points at the half, shooting 3/5 from the 3-point line, while Mackenzee Ryan led the Capers with 11 points.
The third quarter opened with some back-and-forth play on both sides, with Kiara Letlow scoring 15 points for the Capers in the quarter to give them some momentum. However, the Sea-Hawks were able to counter with offense of their own, including good plays from Ines Salat-Margarit and Alyssa Jenkins, and the Sea-Hawks still led the game with a score of 68-49 heading into the final frame.
It was much of the same story in the fourth quarter, with the Sea-Hawks matching all of the Capers' attacks, and they went on to win the game 82-62.
The Subway Player of the game for the Sea-Hawks was Rebecca Ekstrom, with 21 points and 6 rebounds. Alyssa Jenkins had a solid game with 17 points, while Ines Salat Margarit put up 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for the team.
On the Capers side, they were led by Kiara Letlow with 19 points and 11 rebounds and Mackenzee Ryan with 15 points.
The Sea-Hawks now sit third in the AUS Standings with 26 points, while the Capers are sixth with 18 points.
