CAPERS DROP CLOSE ONE TO MEMORIAL
CBU battled hard all night against the Sea-Hawks
(St. John's, NL) – The Memorial Sea-Hawks continued their winning ways on Sunday afternoon with a 79-71 victory over the Cape Breton Capers in AUS men's basketball action.
The Sea-Hawks jumped out to an early lead on the Capers finishing the first quarter with an 18-13 advantage.
Cape Breton would respond with a strong defensive effort in the second quarter, limiting the Sea-Hawks to just 11 total points. The Capers would go into the halftime break with a 35-29 advantage.
The Capers looked poised to secure their first victory of the season going into the final quarter with a six-point advantage. Cape Breton would extend that lead to 10 points with only 6:40 left in regulation.
The Sea-Hawks were scorching hot in the final frame shooting 72.7% from the field and 75% (3/4) from the 3-point line to close out the game.
Cape Breton received a strong performance in the loss from Kenny Jean-Louis (Montreal, QC), who finished with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Junior Moan-Matia (Hamilton, ON) also played well for the visitors, posting 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals.
CBU will play host to St. Francis Xavier on Wednesday at 8pm at the Sullivan Field House.
