February 12, 2012
It was the Jimmy Dorsey show Sunday afternoon at the Sullivan Fieldhouse.
The fourth-year guard from Baltimore, MD, set a new CBU single-game scoring record with 49 points as the host Cape Breton University Capers downed the Acadia Axemen 111-106.
The win improved the Capers to 10-6 on the season and lifted them into second place in the AUS standings.
Dorsey, an AUS first team All-Star the past two years, made his case for AUS MVP Sunday, hitting eight three pointers and totalling 49 points to go with 14 assists and eight rebounds. The career-high 49 points broke the previous school mark of 46 points set by Paris Carter last season at Saint Mary’s.
Al Alilovic added 22 points and eight boards for the Capers while Julian Smith chipped in with 15 points and eight assists. Freshmen Meshack Lufile rounded out the top scorers for the Capers with a 10-point outing.
Owen Klassen was 10-of-14 from the field, including seven three pointers, to pace the Axemen offence with 35 points.
Sean Stoqua with 19 points and Tyler Scott with 16 points were other top scorers for Acadia.
Anthony Ashe and Thomas Filgiano had 12 and 10 points respectively for the Axemen.
CBU will be home Wednesday when they host the StFX X-Men in an 8 p.m. start at the Sullivan Fieldhouse.
