Capers add Saint John native Mike Armstrong
May 13, 2014
The Cape Breton University CAPERS men's basketball team are pleased to announce the addition of Mike Armstrong to the roster for the upcoming Atlantic University Sport season.
Armstrong, a 6'10", 225lb. native of Saint John, NB recently completed the 2012-1013 season with the Athlete Institute prep team in Orangeville, ON where he competed in across North America, including tournaments in California, Florida, Indiana, Illinois and Quebec.
"We targeted Mike early in the recruiting process to be a main target for the 2014-2015 season," said Matt Skinn, head coach of the CAPERS. "Mike is an excellent student, has high character and loves the game of basketball. His size and skill will push our returning players, while also setting us up at that position for the next five years. We are thrilled that Mike decided to attend CBU!"
Armstrong, who graduated from Saint John High School prior to attending the Athlete Institute, is looking forward to joining a CAPERS squad that has been a perennial AUS title contender for the past decade.
"I picked CBU for its basketball because I really connected with the players and they made me feel at home during my visit," said Armstrong. "I felt like I was part of their family from when I met them."
It wasn't just the chance to compete that factored in Armstrong's final decision. Having an opportunity to pursue his Bachelor of Business Administration degree at the Shannon School of Business was a major factor in his decision to attend CBU.
"I chose CBU academically as I know I can really excel because of the professors, small class sizes and resources that the university has to offer, "he said.
"I am so happy to be part of the CAPERS and cannot wait to give it my all, not only for CBU, but for the people of Cape Breton."
