DAY 2 IN THE BOOKS
Caper lose in semi's
Sydney, NS – The 2nd day of the CAPERS 2016 FALL CLASSIC featured four games at Centre 200 on Friday. The day included two semifinals games in the evening as part of the preseason men's basketball tournament.
Game 1 - The AUS University of Prince Edward Island (1-1) started the day off with a convincing 101-85 over P.E.I rivals Holland College (0-2). The Panthers received strong games from Tyler Scott (Halifax, NS) with 32 points and 10 rebounds and Dut Dut (Ottawa, ON) with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Roosevelt Whyley (Nassau, Bahamas) led the Hurricanes in a losing cause with 13 points.
Game 2 – Thetford Prep (1-1) played American school, University of Maine Fort Kent (0-2) during the 3pm game. The Quebec basketball academy beat the Bengals 86-68. Thetford led from start to finish and the game was never in doubt. They used a balanced scoring attack led by Lock Lam (Ottawa, ON) with 20 points and 11 rebounds and Matthis Guerut with 13 points (France) with. Fort Kent was led by Joe McCloskey (Howland, ME) with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
Game 3 – The first game of the evening was the tournaments 1st semi-final and featured AUS rivals Acadia University taking on St.Mary's University. It was a close battle most of the game between the two mainland schools and went down to the last possession. The Acadia Axemen beat the Huskies 90-88. The Axemen were led by big man Erik Nissen (Quispamsis, NB) with 27 points and 17 rebounds. The Huskies used a balanced attack to stay in the game. They had 4 players in double digits, the leader being Kemar Alleyne (Scarborough, ON) with 19. With the win, Acadia advances to the final at 7pm on Saturday night.
Game 4 - In the nightcap, the hometown CAPERS took on rival St. Francis Xavier University in the other semi-final game. The CAPERS behind early in the game but battled back to cut the deficit to 9 at the half. The CAPERS battled through the third quarter reducing the lead as low as three but the X-men would respond right back. The third quarter ended 76-66. The X-men used a strong shooting 4th quarter to pull away for a 104-88 victory. The CAPERS were led by Seth Amoah 17 points (Montreal, QC) and Kyle Hankins (Burlington, ON) with 17 points and 6 rebounds. The X-Men spread the scoring around and had 5 players go for double digits, led by Kevin Bercy (Kanata, ON) with 22 points. The win places St.FX in the final Saturday night at 7pm against the Acadia Axemen. The CAPERS will play at 5pm against St. Mary's.
