In AUS men's soccer action at Wickwire Field, the Cape Breton Capers defeated the Dalhousie
Tigers 2-0 in a match with a quick pace, but few scoring chances.
The Capers struck quickly in the second minute when Charlie Waters (Lancashire, UK)
navigated a corner into the net to make it 1-0. The rest of the half was characterized by fast play
from both sides. Cory Bent (Preston, UK) of the Capers had a good chance in the 23rd minute
from the side, but was unable to put it in. The Capers extended their lead when Stuart Heath
(Belfast, UK) converted on a gorgeous cross to make the score 2-0 after 45 minutes.
The second half saw the speed slow down slightly, but it remained a good pace. The first
scoring chance of the half came in the 60th minute when a Cape Breton corner was nearly
headed in for a score. In the 81st minute, Kallen Heenan (Dartmouth, NS) had a chance in
close, but it was stopped. The last good chance came in extra time when Heenan had the ball
booted away on a partial break to give the Capers the win.
The shots on goal were 7-5 in favour of the Capers. Ben Jackson (Bury, UK) had five saves for
the clean sheet while TJ Leopold (Bedford, NS) also stopped five shots for the Tigers. The
Capers Bent received Subway Player of the Game honours.
Both teams will have their regular season finales tomorrow at 3:15 pm, with the Capers playing
the Saint Mary's Huskies in Halifax and the Tigers going up against the UPEI Panthers at
Wickwire.
