MSOC: Morley Named Coach of the Year, Waters Rookie of the Year
The Cape Breton University CAPERS men's soccer program received two major AUS awards Wednesday.
Sydney, NS - The CAPERS men's soccer program received two major awards on Wednesday. Deano Morley was named the AUS Coach of the Year for the 2nd time (2014) in his career. Charlie Waters was named the Rookie of the Year and is the 4th (Paul Hamilton 2006, Ian Greedy 2010 & Joel Eckert-Ayensa 2015) CAPERS player to win the award.
Morley (Nottingham, Eng) guided the CAPERS to an 11-0-1 (34pts) record and 1st place in the AUS standings this season. The CAPERS outscored their opponents 32-6 this season and finished on a 10-game winning streak. The CAPERS finished the season #1 in the U Sports National Rankings as they head into the playoffs. This is the first time in school history that the men's program has been ranked #1.
Charlie Waters (Lancashire, UK) led the CAPERS in scoring with 12 points including 8 goals and 4 assists. Waters also fired 28 shots on goal.
The AUS also released their annual all-star teams. The CAPERS had 4 1st-team and 3 2nd-team all-stars.

Morley, Waters and the rest of the CAPERS will host the AUS Championships Nov. 2nd-5th at the CBU Field. Their first game will be Friday, November 3rd at 4 pm and they will play the lowest remaining seed. Tournament info here.
