Sydney, N.S. – Cape Breton University and CAPERS men's soccer coach Deano Morley are pleased to announce the commitment of Woodbridge Strikers Soccer Club Isaiah Johnston to the CAPERS for the 2019 season.
The 5'10" center midfielder from Milton, ON arrives with a proven pedigree. Johnston hopes to help push the CAPERS men's soccer program towards another U Sports National Championship in the coming seasons.
The Bishop Reding Royal grad chose CBU because of the beautiful culture, friendly environment and the passion and love that the community and university have for the soccer programs. Johnston said, "I've always believed I needed to be in an environment where soccer was just as important to me as it is to the community and I feel like I found that at CBU."
Head coach Deano Morley said "We are delighted to announce the signing of National team player Isaiah Johnston, a Canadian stand out recruit for 2019. He has the technical ability, intelligence, athleticism, and passion I seek in recruits and I believe he will fit very well into our footballing philosophy, and over his four years develop into a top-class player. "
Morley added, "I knew there was a lot of interest in Isaiah from many Canadian and USA schools but felt we had a great chance to sign him once he visited our beautiful campus. He loved the facilities, training environment and the small, family orientated connection our team, our campus and our community offers. I look forward to welcoming him to our CAPER family and working with Isaiah to reach his academic and football goals. "
When Johnston was asked how he sees himself helping the CAPERS next season, Johnston anticipates himself making an impact. "I see myself coming in as a rookie and making an impact on the team. I would like to not only be a vital piece to our team puzzle but also become an impact player and of course help the CAPERS win another AUS and U Sports National Championship," said Johnston.
The CBU CAPERS men's soccer program is the defending AUS champions and U Sports National Champions. The CAPERS host the AUS championships November 1-4th. The CAPERS have clinched first place in the AUS and secured a bye to the semi-finals. All games can be seen at CBU's field and on AUSTV.ca
