Bio

Iain King, BA (Honours) Journalism 

Soccer Cape Breton’s Regional Director of Soccer Development Iain was appointed as Assistant Coach with the CBU Men’s soccer program by Head Coach Deano Morley in May 2022.

A native of Scotland, Iain holds the prestigious UEFA A coaching badge and also has Youth and Children’s Licences with Canada Soccer alongside being a trained Learning Facilitator with the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP).

Iain moved full-time into soccer after three decades as one of his homeland’s leading sports journalists. He is a three-time winner of the Scottish Sportswriter of the Year award and has published six books on the game he loves.

He was Head Coach of his hometown club East Kilbride FC in the Scottish Lowland League and led them to the SFA Challenge Cup in 2014 in their first season in the professional ranks.

After a switch to EKFC’s Lowland League rivals BSC Glasgow the following year Iain repeated the feat and became the first coach to lift the coveted trophy with two different clubs in successive seasons.

Iain emigrated to Canada in 2017 to join top Ontario youth side North Toronto Nitros where he had four productive years before moving to the East coast to become Technical Director of United DFC in Halifax ahead of his decision to come to Cape Breton.

He is married to wife Lorna and lives in the beautiful seaside town of Louisbourg. Iain and Lorna have two children, daughter Caitlin and son Bruce.
