Capers dump X-Women 60-49

Solid defence and balanced scoring helped pace the Cape Breton University Capers to a 60-49 victory over the StFX X-Women in AUS women's basketball action Tuesday night in Sydney.
Fifth-year guard Tanira McClurkin had 16 points for the Capers, who improved to 9-8 on the season and continue to hold down second spot in the AUS standings.
Colleen Keane, the reigning AUS Rookie of the Year, chipped in with 14 points and eight rebounds for the winners.
Alison Keough with seven points and nine rebounds and Kayla Gardener with seven points and five rebounds were other top scorers for CBU.
Kolbi Roper had 14 points and five rebounds for the X-Women, who fell to 7-9 overall.
Lindsay Lessard finished with 10 points and five rebounds in a losing cause.
The Capers will wrap up the home portion of their season this weekend when they host the Dalhousie Tigers Friday at 6 p.m. and the Acadia Axewomen Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Sullivan Fieldhouse.
