Capers slip past Tigers in double overtime

It took two extra quarters, but when all was said and done, the Cape Breton University Capers women's basketball team had a hard-fought 88-86 double-overtime victory over the Dalhousie Tigers Friday night in Sydney.
Alison Keough continued her impressive freshman season for the Capers, pouring in a team-high 29 points and grabbing 14 rebounds as CBU improved to 10-8 on the season and locked up a playoff spot.
For the season, Marion Bridge native Keough is averaging 15.3 points per game (seventh in the AUS) and a conference best 10.2 rebounds per game.
Fifth-year guard Tanira McClurkin added 26 points, six boards and four assists for the winners while Colleen Keane chipped in with 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Courtney Thompson had a game-high 34 points and seven assists for the 8-9 Tigers.
Tessa Stammberger added 21 points and nine rebounds for Dalhousie while Sydney native Ainsley MacIntyre finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
The Capers will play their final home game of the season Saturday when they tip off against the Acadia Axewomen in a 2 p.m. start at the Sullivan Fieldhouse.
