Keough Named U Sports 1st Team All-Canadian

(Victoria, B.C) - Alison Keough of the Cape Breton CAPERS has been named a U Sports 1st-Team All-Canadian. This is the first time that Keough has been named to the team. Keough and the CAPERS are currently participating the U Sports Final 8 National Championships in Victoria. Cape Breton faces Queen's University in their quarter-final match-up on Thursday at 4pm AST.  Keough is also the 2016-17 recipient of the Most Valuable Player Award in the Atlantic University Sport Conference.

The 6-foot-1, fourth-year forward finished second in the AUS this season in scoring averaging 19.3 points per game and was first in rebounding with 9.9 rebounds per game. The 21-year-old led the CAPERS to a 13-7 record this season and was named as a AUS 1st-team All-Star. Keough was also named AUS and US Sports Rookie of the Year in 2013-14. Keough was also named as a 2015-16 2nd-Team All-Canadian.

A native of Marion Bridge, Nova Scotia who decided to attend her home town Cape Breton University is in her 4th year of eligibility. Alison is also a 2016 Academic All-Canadian. Alison graduated from Riverview High School where she played both basketball and soccer.

"Alison is very tough to match up against. She is a very good athlete at 6'1 and can play around thebasket as well as on the perimeter. Her agility helps her score and rebound around the rim very well. She competes very hard as well which makes her tough to stop says CAPERS head coach Fabian McKenzie".  "Alison has grown in all areas of the game on and off the court. On court she has become a better ball-handler, better defender and a more consistent scorer. Off the court she has developed into a fantastic leader within our team and the community."
