Keough leads Canada to Victory
CAPERS Star Alison Keough helped lead Canada to a 2-0 start at the FISU Games.
Sydney, NS - The Canadian women's basketball team used a strong performance from Cape Breton University's own Alison Keough to beat Korea 79-42. Canada which is coached by another CBU member, Fabian McKenzie moves to a perfect 2-0 at the 29th Summer Universiade round robin being held in Taipei.
Keough, a Marion Bridge, NS native led the team with 11 points to go along with 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. The nursing student played a strong 14 minutes in a balanced attack by Canada. Keough was part of a dominant Canadian front court that out-rebounded the Koreans 67-29.
The Canadians will finish up the round robin part of the tournament against a very strong Japanese team. Head Coach McKenzie said "The games will all be tough from here on out. Japan will be very, very good." Canada sits tied a top the Pool B standings (2-0) with Japan.
