MOST VALUABLE PLAYER: Hannah Brown, Cape Breton University
(Sydney, NS) -The Atlantic University Sport women's basketball most valuable player is fifth-year forward Hannah Brown of Cape Breton University.
A Business Administration student from North Sydney, NS., Brown led the conference in scoring averaging 26.4 points per game and finished second in rebounding averaging 12.6 per game. Brown's 26.4 ppg were enough to lead the country. She also set a CBU single-season record for points (528) which ranks second all-time in the AUS. The Cape Breton native also set a new CBU single-season rebounding record with 251 which also ranks the second best all-time in the AUS.
Brown is the 5th CAPER to win the conference MVP award joining Janice Moseychuk (95-96), Kelsey Hodgson (08-09 & 09-10), Cassie Cooke (11-12) and Alison Keough (16-17)
Head Coach Fabian McKenzie said "Hannah has had a magical season. Facing double and triple teams by the opposition defence she has led the country in scoring and has scored under 20 points once this year. She has simply been a dominating force at both ends of the court leading the CAPERS to a first-place finish in the AUS."
Hannah was also named to the AUS 1st-Team All-star. This is the second year in a row that Brown has been named to the 1st-team. 3rd-Year CAPERS' guard Monique Calliste (Toronto, ON) joins Brown as a 1st-Team All-star. Calliste was fourth in the AUS scoring 18.1 points per game. This is Calliste's first year in the AUS.
Brown, Calliste and the rest of the CAPERS will play their semi-final game on Saturday at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax at 1 pm. They await the winner of the University of New Brunswick and Memorial University Quarter-final on Friday.
