Axewomen beat Dal in QF1
Acadia beats Dalhousie 2-1 in extra-time.
Sydney, NS – The 2016 Subway AUS Women's Championship got underway at CBU Field Thursday night with #3 Acadia taking on #6 Dalhousie. The 1st quarterfinal match was a defensive battle with both teams playing tight in the first half.
The team loosened up in the second half and traded goals. Dalhousie broke the deadlock in the 64' with a goal mouth scramble off a corner kick. Jensen Hudder (White's Lake, NS) poked the ball through the crowd for the Tigers. The lead did not last long as Acadia tied the game in the 71' with a similar scramble off a corner kick. Katie Cross (Bedford, NS) put the corner kick into the box and Allie Scovil (Hubley, NS) put the ball in the back of the net. The team failed to score anymore in regulation and headed into extra-time.
7 minutes into extra-time Candace Conrad (Dartmouth, NS) scored the go ahead goal assisted again by Katei Cross. The Axewomen played solid defense the rest of the way and limited the Tigers attack to earn the victory. Katie Cross was awarded the Subway Player of the Game for her two assists. Dalhousie's player of the game was keeper Sam Corcoran (Ottawa, ON) who made several difficult saves to keep the underdog Tigers in the game.
With the victory, Acadia now faces #2 seed Memorial University in the second semi-final on Friday at 7.30pm at CBU Field.
