Blake Hervé: ‘Honoured’ to Join the CBU CAPERS
Blake Hervé's dream of being a member of a university track and field team will come true this fall as he joins the CBU CAPERS Track and Field team for his rookie AUS season. Head Coach John Hudec saw potential in Blake when he would attend his sister's practices and has asked him to join his crew of runners this year.
Track and Field has been a bit of a family affair in the Hervé household. Blake shares that watching his sister and cousin participate, and stories of his father and uncle participating in the sport sparked an interest in him when he was younger. His sister Mariah, a veteran member of the CBU CAPERS Track & Field team says she is "super excited" to have her brother as a teammate this year. Blake tells us that he started taking running seriously about 2 years ago and looks to his sister and father - a winning runner at the provincial level - for mentorship and motivation.
"Blake has the family history and a multisport background that demonstrates he is a competitive athlete," notes Hudec. "I was impressed with his high school performances and his commitment to take advantage of our strength and conditioning program. It will be great to see how Blake develops with the support our university can provide."
Blake is a resident of Howie Centre, Nova Scotia, and a recent graduate of Riverview Rural High School. His mother and sister both noted that they feel Blake will handle the balance of academics and athletics very well as he has always worked hard in both areas and "there's nothing he can't handle". Blake will work towards a Bachelor of Science in Biology while donning the CAPER uniform on the track.
"Coach Hudec told me a lot about the program," shares Hervé. His conversations with Hudec about the student-athletes forming a great team who work hard and push each other on a daily basis helped him to make his decision to join the CAPER Family. Once part of the team in September, Blake hopes to raise awareness in our community about the sport of track and field and to serve as role models for kids and spark their interest in the sport.
Blake is "honoured" to have this opportunity to be a CBU CAPER.
