Sunday, September 8, 2024
The CBU CAPERS (2-0-2) and the Acadia Axemen (0-1-2) battled to a draw on Sunday, September 8th at Ness Timmons Field at CBU.
The CAPERS opened the scoring in the 45th minute when Owen Sheppard capitalized on a penalty in the box, drawn by Joe Mac, by getting the penalty kick past Acadia's keeper Connor Burns (Halifax, NS) giving CBU a 1-0 lead and marking the only goal of the first half.
Acadia balanced out the score at the 60-minute mark with a pass from Oscar Marshall (Lake Loon, NS) over to Nathan Amoah (Lower Sackville, NS) to sneak it past keeper Daniel Clarke (Milton Keynes, ENG).
The CAPERS had 8 shots on goal but Burns – Acadia's player of the game – was in fine form today. In extra time, Ryan Wadden got the ball to Owen Sheppard but was shut out by Burns to keep the score at 1-1.
The Subway Player of the Game – Sebastian Cochrane – had a great presence on the field and was crucial in playmaking at both ends of the field.
The CAPERS are at home next weekend against Mount Allison on Saturday, September 14th at 6:15pm at the Ness Timmons Field, while the Acadia Axemen are home against the Dalhousie Tigers on Friday the 13th at 7:15pm and Memorial Seahawks on Saturday the 14th at 3:15pm.
