The Inaugural Nancy Dingwall Award for Impact Awarded During CAPERS Weekend
The Nancy Dingwall Award for Impact, an award that recognizes a student-athlete who not only excels in their sport but also demonstrates leadership, compassion, and a strong commitment to both the university and the wider Cape Breton community, was awarded for the first time between the men's and women's basketball games Saturday night during the 50th anniversary CAPERS Weekend. The recipient was chosen by a selection committee, based on nominations from CBU coaches, to celebrate the qualities Nancy embodied: compassion, fierceness, strength, and pride.
Nancy Dingwall was a true trailblazer who dedicated her life to empowering others and making a lasting difference in our community. This new award recognizes individuals who embody her spirit of leadership, commitment, and positive influence. the very 1st recipient of the Nancy Dingwall Award for Impact.
The very first recipient of this award was 4th year men's basketball student-athlete, Mitchell Mercereau. In addition to this recognition, Mitchell will also receive a $5,000 award as part of this special honour.
Cape Breton University has placed a plaque on the seat that Nancy used to sit in with so much pride while cheering on our CAPERS with her family for more than 30 years. "Nancy's Seat" will forever honour her lifelong support of Capers Athletics.
