Tyson Cato – a fifth-year forward with the Cape Breton University (CBU) CAPERS varsity basketball team, is the 7 by 7 Restaurant CBU male athlete of the week for the week ending January 12.
Cato, of St. Catharines, Ontario, walked away from the 64-85 loss to UNB on Friday, January 10 with 11 rebounds and 7 points. He fired things up the next night in a re-match against UNB on January 11th with 26 points and 8 rebounds to pull off a 99-90 win.
Cato is 3rd in the AUS with a field goal percentage of 50.9 leading to an average of 13.8 points per game. Cato and his CAPERS have a record of 7-4 which places them 2nd in the AUS.
The CAPERS (7-4) will return to the Sullivan Fieldhouse this weekend with a match-up versus the Acadia Axemen on Friday, January 17. Tip-off is at 8 p.m.

Kiyara Letlow – a fourth-year forward with the Cape Breton University (CBU) CAPERS varsity basketball team, averaged a double-double in a pair of on the road match-ups with the UNB Reds in Atlantic University Sport (AUS) action over the weekend – is the 7 by 7 Restaurant CBU female athlete of the week for the week ending January 12.
On January 10, the Bachelor of Arts in Community Studies student finished with 18 points, 18 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 blocked shots – in 40 minutes of court time – as the CAPERS faced a 52-65 loss against the Reds.
On the following afternoon (January 11), the 6'1" native of Toronto collected 24 points, 14 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 blocked shots – in 40 minutes – in a close 66-71 fall to the Reds.
Letlow, who is averaging a double-double, is leading the AUS in rebounds with 159 and tied for 1st in points with 220. Letlow is also leading U SPORTS with a points per game average of 22 and rebounds per game average of15.9.
Letlow is 6 rebounds shy of breaking the AUS career rebounds record, moving ahead of CBU's Alison Keough who has held the #1 spot with 1022 rebounds since the 2027/18 season.
The CAPERS will return to the Sullivan Fieldhouse on Friday, January 17, versus the Acadia Axewomen. Tip-off is at 6pm.
