The Nancy Dingwall Award for Impact, an award that recognizes a student-athlete who not only excels in their sport but also demonstrates leadership, compassion, and a strong commitment to both the university and the wider Cape Breton community, was awarded for the first time between the men’s and women’s basketball games Saturday night during the 50th anniversary CAPERS Weekend. The recipient was chosen by a selection committee, based on nominations from CBU coaches, to celebrate the qualities Nancy embodied: compassion, fierceness, strength, and pride.
In recent weeks, Corey LeBlanc of CBU Athletics has been talking, via ZOOM, with Caper varsity student-athletes; not only about sports but also the academic and community aspects of their experience at the university. Along with the videos, which can be accessed on this site, we are sharing print stories chronicling aspects of those conversations. Enjoy and GO CAPERS GO!

Whether it is our soccer season or hosting the U Sports women's national championship in basketball. What an incredible year we had. We saw exemplary individual results both in the classroom and on the field, court or track. Your perseverance, dedication and commitment to your sport were on full display this season. We had an incredible year with all of our teams having successful seasons. We are extremely proud of our student-athletes for their outstanding performances in the 2022-23 season. We would also like to thank all of our outstanding head coaches, assistant coaches and support staff. Without the support of our President David Dingwall, and his executive team as well as our faculty and staff, and all of our corporate & community partners, we would not be able to do what we do. Thank you to our Final 8 WBB host committee for putting on a successful national championship. A commemorative hall of fame honouring Dr. Carl Bucky Buchanan Capers has also been established. Bucky is one of the true builders of our university and sport on Cape Breton Island. To those CAPERS leaving this year, we extend our best wishes for continued success in your future endeavours. #gocapersgo
