Bio
Chris Bourque MSW RSW
Chris completed his undergraduate degree from Mount Allison University and then obtained his Bachelor and Master of Social Work degrees from Dalhousie University’s School of Social Work. He has additional post graduate training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy as well as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. He combines his education with lived experience in sport to understand and support the unique needs of student athletes. Chris was a multisport athlete and is proud to have represented Canada as a player for the national Australian Rules Football team between 2014-2023. This experience complements his role as the Mental Health Clinician for CBU’s student athletes. He is passionate and committed to assisting student athletes achieve their goals on and off the playing ground.
Chris is also an active community member, having been involved with numerous organizations. He has been a council member for the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers, a board member for United Way: Cape Breton Chapter, a board member for AFL Canada, founding member and president of the Sydney Giants AFL Club, assistant coach with the County Minor Hockey Association, and currently sits on the board of directors for The Three Brothers Project, an agency focused on raising awareness for men’s mental health.
Outside of work Chris can be found spending time with his family. He has a wonderful wife Susan, and three happy and active children. He enjoys the time with his family and stays young by playing hockey, strength training, cycling, and growing the game of Australian Rules Football.
