Lufile paces Capers past Varsity Reds

Saturday may be senior day at CBU, but Friday night was a showcase for sophomore Meshack Lufile as the Capers defeated the visiting University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds 88-75 in AUS Men’s Basketball action at the Sullivan Fieldhouse.
The 6’8”, 240lb Lufile, a second-year forward from Burlington, ON, exploded for a career high 30 points and 19 rebounds to pace the CIS No. 2 ranked Capers to the victory.
Reigning AUS MVP Jimmy Dorsey added 24 points, 12 assists, seven rebounds and three steals for the Capers who improved to 18-1 on the season.
Kayon Mayers with nine points and Sean McCormick with six points and 15 boards were other top players for the Capers.
William McAfee led all scorers in the game with 32 points for the Varsity Reds. McAfee scored all 21 points for the visitors in the fourth quarter as they attempted to rally from behind.
Mark Matheson and Jordan Irvine chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively for UNB.
The two teams will be back on the court Saturday for a 4 p.m. tip off at the Sullivan Fieldhouse. The game will mark the final time Dorsey, one of the all-time Caper greats will suit up at home.
