CAPERS start slow, fall to UNB Varsity Reds 100-74

Sydney, NS - The Cape Breton University CAPERS dropped the first of their two games this weekend, losing 100-74 to the league-leading University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds 100-74. Javon Masters (Kitchener, ON) led all scorers, dropping 32 points on 12-20 shooting. Ibrahima Doumbouya (Calgary, AB) had 11 points, making him the only other Varsity Red to have a double digits point total. Paul Watson (Mississauga, ON) was the top scorer for the CAPERS, with 19.
Turning point - Javon Masters helped UNB jump out to a strong start, scoring 11 of UNB's 32 points in the first quarter. The Varsity Reds outscored the CAPERS 32-19 in the first, and UNB was able to keep that early momentum throughout the game.
Individual Leaders
- Javon Masters finished the night with a game-high 32 points, and also had 9 rebounds.
- The CAPERS were led in points by Paul Watson with 19 points and Kevon Mascoe (Scarborough, ON) with 18 points. Both players came off the bench in this game.
- The Varsity Reds had a really strong first half to pull away from CBU. UNB outscored the CAPERS 32-19 in the first quarter and 27-18 in the second quarter.
