Bean named CIS Male Athlete of the Week
An impressive weekend for CAPERS veteran striker Keishen Bean has resulted in the CBU captain being named CIS and AUS Male Athlete of the Week as well as CAPERS Athlete of the Week.
Keishen opened the scoring against Memorial on Saturday with a clinical short post shot on a breakaway which led to an eventual 3-1 victory over the Seahawks.
On Sunday, the Bermuda international striker put on a scoring display, recording four goals in a 9-1 rout over Acadia University. Keishen, who led the CIS in scoring in 2009, recorded the game winner midway through the first half, converting a fine pass from 2009 AUS MVP Andrew Rigby.
In the second half, Keishen would be set-up three consecutive times by fellow striker 2010 AUS Rookie of the Year Ian Greedy to complete his four-goal performance against the Axemen.
The former first team all-Canadian and AUS/CIS scoring champion in 2009 has been on a roll since the preseason. He recorded the game winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Concordia and scored two times in a 3-0 win over McGill in Montreal.
Cape Breton now sits in a first place tie with StFX, Dalhousie and UPEI in the Atlantic University Sport Men's Soccer Conference. The CAPERS will be in action on Saturday against Dalhousie in Halifax.
