Capers upset undefeated Huskies
October 14, 2012
It was a much-needed win for the Cape Breton University Capers as they upset the CIS No. 3 ranked Saint Mary’s Huskies 2-1 in AUS men’s soccer action Sunday in Sydney.
Third-year striker Ian Greedy, mired in a season long scoring drought, opened the scoring for the Capers just nine minutes into the game and rookie Martin Kowalski made it 2-0 for the home side at the 19 minute mark.
More than 60 minutes would pass before Kareem Henry pulled the Huskies within one, beating Andrew Murphy in the CBU goal at the 82-minute mark. But it was as close as the previously undefeated Huskies would come.
The victory improves CBU to 3-3-3 on the season while first-place SMU falls to 6-1-3.
The Capers will be on the road this weekend when they travel to Charlottetown Saturday to face the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers and to Sackville Sunday to face the Mount Allison Mounties.
