Highlanders get Greedy
April 8, 2014
VICTORIA, B.C. – Victoria Highlanders FC are proud to announce that 2013 CIS First Team All-Canadian forward Ian Greedy (Lower Sackville, NS) will join Victoria for the 2014 PDL season. Arguably the top player in Atlantic University Sport, the addition of Greedy bolsters a strong core of committed CIS players to the Highlanders for the upcoming season.
Greedy, who will turn 23 this April, is captain of the Cape Breton University Capers and was named the 2013 AUS Most Valuable Player along with CIS First Team All-Canadian and AUS First Team All-Star nods. This season, he became the Capers all-time leading scorer after finishing the 2013 campaign with 34 goals in his career. Greedy was named AUS Rookie of the Year in 2010, as well as AUS First Team All-Star and CIS Second Team All-Canadian in 2011.
"Ian has been a standout striker in the Atlantic Conference, he's a hungry kid who's out to prove his value," said Highlanders head coach Steve Simonson. "It was great to talk to him and give a player from a small town in eastern Canada an opportunity to shine. In speaking with him he's really motivated to do well and that's the type of player we want to have. He's obviously got some ability but he's hungry to show himself so that's important."
Statistically, Greedy led all players in the 10-team Atlantic conference in virtually every offensive category this past season, including goals (9), points (18), shots (45) and shots on goal (33). His collegiate career saw him make a trip to the 2011 CIS National Championships at Centennial Stadium in Victoria where he posted a goal against the University of Victoria Vikes. Greedy and Cape Breton, who won national bronze that season, claimed a CIS silver medal a year later in 2012 in Laval, PQ.
"I am very excited to be a part of a team with quality players who are going push me each day in training to be a stronger player," said Greedy. "This season I hope to contribute to the success of winning the PDL.
I will show up each and every training session with the mentality of playing a simple game, working hard and learning from my teammates and coaching staff."
The addition of Greedy brings the current Highlanders PDL roster to 11 with just over four weeks remaining until the May 4 season opening match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC U-23. For upcoming news and player signings, please visit www.victoriahighlandersfc.com.
