Greedy approaches goal record for Capers
October 4, 2013
Ian Greedy is close to making history for the Cape Breton University Capers men's soccer team, and could do so on home turf this weekend.
The Capers forward is two goals away from tying the school's all-time record. The fourth-year
forward from Lower Sackville has 29 goals in his career, and is chasing Keishen Bean, who tallied 31 goals from 2009-11.
"Doing anything on home field would be great," said Greedy. "To do it on home turf would be

ideal, definitely."
Greedy is tied for the league lead in goals with four, along with teammate Mark Stewart and Marcus Lees of the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds. Lees and the Varsity Reds will be the Capers' opponents on Saturday, and CBU will take on the Moncton Aigles Bleus on Sunday.

Greedy, who scored only three goals in all of last season, says he's playing with more confidence in 2013, thanks in part to a summer in the Nova Scotia Soccer League's premier men's division with Suburban Mil-Aero. He led the league in scoring with 21 goals.
"I was away with the Ottawa Fury (in the summer of 2012), playing there, and didn't get much
playing time," he said. "Last summer, I was in Halifax playing 90-minute games for (17 games). My fitness is a lot better."
While Greedy's march to a new record is in sight, the Capers are also focusing on picking up some wins in a tight race for the playoffs.
CBU is unbeaten in five games heading into this weekend's action with a 2-2-3 mark. The Capers posted three draws during their streak, but got back into the win column on Sunday with a 2-0 blanking of the Mount Allison Mounties.
"Wins are worth three points, so our goal early in the season was to get back to .500 by midseason, and that's where we're at now," said CBU head coach Robbie Chiasson. "Moving
forward, we want to carry that bit of momentum we have going and hopefully, playing both
Moncton and UNB this weekend, we can carry on some positive energy and get us a couple of
more results."
CBU is two points back of the Dalhousie Tigers (3-3-2) for the sixth and final playoff spot.
"We are on the outside looking in, but we're a lot closer this week than we were last week,"
said Chiasson. "The games are getting closer and closer to the end of the season, so we want to get as many results as we can. This would be a good start because UNB and Moncton are ahead of us."
Games Saturday and Sunday at the Cape Breton Health Recreation Complex are scheduled
for 1 p.m. (women) and 3:15 p.m. (men) each day
