Capers fall to UNB in AUS semifinal
Yassin Shehab El Din provided the lone goal for the V-Reds in the 88th minute of the match off a corner kick. El Din was also named Subway Player of the Game.
In what seemed to be a match controlled mainly by the Capers, two game-saving saves by V-Reds keeper Brandon Eagle combined with a solid performance by their back line led by Bruno Mota allowed UNB to stay in the game and make a late push.
Many of the opportunities came from Capers striker Justin Maheu, who totaled a game-high six shots in the contest. The Capers outshot the V-Reds 19-15.
The rain and wind once again played a factor in the game, as it did in previous contests in this weekend's championship. There were several opportunities from both sides that fell through due to slippery conditions and unexpected ball movement.
The V-Reds will face the winner of today's second semi-final match between the second-ranked Saint Mary's Huskies and the third-ranked Dalhousie Tigers in the championship final Sunday at 2 p.m.
