ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — The Cape Breton University Capers men's soccer team was handed its first loss of the season, but rebounded nicely in a two-game set against the Memorial Sea-Hawks over the weekend.
The Capers cruised to a 4-0 win on Sunday, and improved their Atlantic University Sport leading record to 5-1-2 on the season.
Seventh-place Memorial dropped to 3-3-1.
Scott Shewfelt made five saves to record the shutout in the CBU goal. His six shutouts lead the conference.
On offence, Joel Eckert-Ayensa scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the third minute of play. Justin Maheu, who leads the conference with nine goals in eight games, added insurance in the 30th minute.
In the second half, Mark Stewart struck in the 47th minute and Sandro Rajkovic followed in the 50th minute.
Saturday, Tyler Forsey's goal in the 40th minute was the winner for Memorial and handed the Capers their first loss of the season, 1-0.
David Hickey made nine stops for the shutout.
The Capers will be off this weekend for Thanksgiving and will return to action Friday, October 16th when they host StFX in a 7:15 p.m. start at the Cape Breton Health Recreation Complex turf on the CBU campus.
