Cape Breton University CAPERS open defence of their AUS title with 1-0 victory over X
Antigonish, NS – The Cape Breton University Men's soccer program got off to a winning start for the 2017 season. The CAPERS defeated the St.Francis Xavier X-Men 1-0 in AUS preseason exhibition play on Saturday afternoon in Antigonish.
The CAPERS defended well and received a goal from rookie forward Charlie Waters (Lancashire, UK) in the second half to secure the victory. 2nd-year keeper Ben Jackson (Bury, UK) earned the clean sheet for the defending AUS Champions.
4th-Year Head Coach Deano Morley said "It was a fantastic day at the office, 22 players all got 45 minutes of playing time against a competitive St. Fx side." Morley continued "The 8 new signings all did well capped off by new strike Charlie Waters displaying his quality finishing with a beauty strike. We had fun and got a lot of positives from the game with lots to build on.
The CAPERS leave Antigonish for team building exercises in the Cape Breton Highlands before returning home to prepare for the home opener.
The CAPERS open defense of their title September 9th hosting the Saint Mary's University Huskies at CBU at 3.15pm.
