#1 Team in Canada starts season off with strong effort
The CBU Capers defeated the UNB Reds Friday night 2-1
(SYDNEY, NS) The CBU Capers defeated the UNB Reds Friday night 2-1. The first part of the first half being very rough and tough with great back and forth by both teams not giving an inch. A great look early by Cbu's Isaiah Johnston (Milton , ON) was saved by goalie Evan Barker (Winnipeg WB). Cory Bent (Preston, UK) used athleticism to get lots of open looks early but was not able to score. Caelan Budhoo (Winnipeg, WB) also had some shots couldn't find the back of the net.
In the 19th minute a great goal and assist Peter Schaale and Jack Simpson on a great back and forth play put the Capers on the board.
Ben Gorringe (Halifax N.S) scored for UNB but CBU doesn't hang their heads they come back stronger and fighting harder.
The 2nd half started with a more calm approach by both teams. Cory Bent (Preston, UK) showing even more hustle than he had the first half and it paid off because in the 50th min he scored a gorgeous goal making the score 2-1 early in the 2nd half. The striker from Preston, UK got by 2 fullbacks to get the shot in the 57th min of play but it went wide again. 6"5 Keeper Evan Barker (Winnipeg ,WB) made 2 great saves to keep the Reds in this game halfway through the second half.
Tom Pheulpin (Fredricton NB) from UNB had a nice look for the Reds but it went above the crossbar! Peter Schaale (Bernkastel-Kues, DE) made a bunch of great deflections down the stretch of this game to keep the Reds away from his keeper.
The last few minutes of this game was rough and scrappy and the Reds got a great look by Tristan Nkoghe (Sherbrooke QC) but goalie Ben Jackson (Bury, UK) made a great save to keep the game 2-1 for the CBU Capers! UNB's Daniel walker had a great chance in front but shot wide in the 89th minute.
Next up for CBU is on Sunday and it's a match against UPEI Sunday at 5:00pm , at Cape Breton University
