(St. John's, NL) - On a rainy and blustery day in St. Johns, the Memorial Sea-Hawks dropped their second game of a weekend series to the Cape Breton Capers by a final score of 5-1.
The home team was unable to get much going today, the visiting Capers were able to control the pace of the game from start to finish and ultimately showed why they are one of the better teams in the nation. The Capers were able to jump ahead to an early 1-0 lead with a goal in the 26th minute from midfielder Jacob Spizzirri after the original shot was directed off the crossbar. Shortly after, Capers forward Owen Sheppard found the back of the net on a nice shot from the edge of the box, putting the Capers up a 2-0 lead after 32 minutes. After the opening 45, the Capers held a 2-0 lead on the scoreboard and a 9-5 lead in the shot column.
It's clear that the Sea-Hawks, guided by head coach Noel Stanford was going to push forward in the second half in search of the come-from-behind victory. Despite their best intentions, the Sea-Hawks would concede 3 more goals in the final frame: Ze Cunha (71st, 80th) and Jamie Watson (75th) added to the cause to finish out the game for the visitors. Before the 90th minute hit, the Sea-Hawks were able to grab a late goal from defender Cabhan O'Keefe in the 87th minute, his first goal of the season.
