The University of Cape Breton Capers scored three times in the second half as they cruised to a 3-1 win over the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus on Saturday in an Atlantic University Sport men's soccer game at Stade Croix Bleue Medavie Stadium on the Moncton campus.
There was no scoring in the first half as both teams battled each other with attacks and several plays in the middle of the field. The Capers still held a 6-1 advantage in kicks and led 7-0 in corner kicks. Max Piepgrass in the 52nd minute for the Capers, Jonathan Kisse 5 minutes later for the Aigles Bleus and Jason Hartill in the 68th minute and Kieran Maddock in the 90th minute for the visitors completed the scoring of the game. Owen Sheppard had two assists. Daniel Clarke made 4 saves for the win in net and Soan Janssen made 6 saves in the loss.
Both teams played with intensity and several balls were redirected by the head. The players ran often from one end of the field to the other as the ball moved quickly from one zone to another.
The Aigles Bleus visit the Mounties at Mount Allison University on Thursday at 7:15 p.m. The Capers host the Memorial University Sea-Hawks on Friday at 7:15 p.m.
