Capers fall to X-Women
An injury-laden Cape Breton University Capers women's basketball team had trouble hitting shots all night enroute to a 66-56 loss to the StFX X-Women Wednesday at the Sullivan Fieldhouse.
CBU finished the game shooting 37.9 per cent from the field.
Kristen Jones scored a game-high 16 points for St. Francis Xavier and hauled down 10 rebounds. Rebecca Sheehan and Vanessa Pickard contributed 13 points each to the win.
Jessica Steed scored 14 for the Capers, Cassie Cooke had 13 and Jahlica Kirnon netted 11.
The X-Women held a 37-26 lead at the half. The win improves their record to 4-4 on the season, while the Capers dropped to 3-5.
Things got rough in the third quarter when both Donisha Young of the X-Women and Hope Edwards of the Capers got into a wrestling match under the X-Women’s net. The two were tossed from the game as a result.
CBU hosts the Memorial Sea-Hawks Saturday and Sunday at Sullivan Field House. Games are at 6 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
